Missing Teeth? We Can Help!
Dental bridges and removable partial dentures are common ways to replace missing teeth in adults. If teeth that have been lost are not replaced, the remaining teeth can tip, drift, or extrude (grow) into the empty spaces, causing both aesthetic and functional problems within your mouth. If you have missing teeth, visit a doctor for dental bridges and partials to determine if these options are right for you.

What is a dental bridge?
A dental bridge is exactly what its name suggests. It is meant to bridge the gap left by a missing tooth. A dental bridge can actually be used for multiple missing teeth in a row, as well. Basically, a bridge works by taking a false tooth and suspending it between the two teeth adjacent to the empty space. This is accomplished by preparing the teeth on either side of the space to anchor the bridge, which consists of three or more crowns fused together.
How does it work?
The first step is to prepare the adjacent teeth to receive crowns. This involves removing a certain amount of enamel from each tooth to allow room for them to fit comfortably. Once the teeth have been reshaped, impressions of the area where the missing tooth is located will be made and used to create the bridge. If a dental lab is being used for fabrication of the bridge, it usually takes about three weeks for the restoration to be completed.
During the second visit, Dr. Schwartz and Dr. Antol will examine the health of your gum tissue before setting the bridge in place. If everything is in order, the bridge will be cemented permanently into place.
What are the benefits?
There are several benefits to receiving a dental bridge:
- It restores the appearance of your smile.
- It allows you to eat and speak normally.
- It helps to prevent teeth from shifting out of place.
- It prevents lips and cheeks from sinking inward.
- It helps redistribute bite forces evenly to prevent jaw problems.
