Veneers

Dental veneers are thin shells made of composite material or porcelain that are placed directly over the front surface of the teeth to restore their shape and color. Veneers provide an uncomplicated, minimally invasive and effective way to achieve a beautiful smile.

Dr. Schwartz recommends the use of porcelain veneers because of their superior strength and resilience, and the high aesthetic value of porcelain. Porcelain comes closest to the natural color of teeth and its translucent property is similar to that of the natural tooth enamel.

Porcelain veneers can last a very long time, just like any other tooth restoration such as a dental crown. Therefore, it is a cost-effective one-time investment that can continue to give excellent benefits for several years. The average lifespan of a porcelain veneer is about 10 years. However, it primarily depends on how well the user takes care of their oral hygiene. If excellent oral health and hygiene is maintained, high quality porcelain veneers can last well over 20 years.

Another advantage of dental veneers, according to Dr. Schwartz is that they require no special care or maintenance. The user can simply forget about the veneers and continue their normal oral functions. Brushing and flossing the teeth can be done in a normal way, as well.

It must be noted that veneers are useful in cases where the teeth have very stubborn stains or marks that will not go away with teeth whitening. Secondly, veneers are ideal in a situation where the teeth are slightly chipped or worn off. If there is major damage to the tooth, then a veneer may not be able to serve the purpose. A dental crown will be a more appropriate solution in such cases.

Dr. Schwartz is an expert in dental veneer application. But a good quality veneer is not the entire answer. Equally important is the perfect fabrication and perfect application of the veneer onto the patient’s tooth. Therefore, it needs the attention of an experienced dental surgeon who specializes in veneer treatment.

Lumineers

Lumineers is a brand of porcelain dental veneers created by the California-based Den Mart. The primary difference between Lumineers and normal dental veneers lies in their construction. Lumineers are less in thickness compared to normal dental veneers. Typical porcelain dental veneers are produced to be 0.5 millimeters thick. However, the veneers under the brand of Lumineers are made to a 0.3 millimeter thickness.

Even though Lumineers are made from porcelain similar to other dental veneers, there’s a slight difference in its composition. The material with which Lumineers are made from is a mixture of feldspathic porcelain and leucite crystals, collectively known as Cerinate porcelain. In addition to using this special material, state of the art bonding techniques are also used to strengthen the Lumineers since they are less in thickness than normal dental veneers.
