Cerec is a revolutionary computer-aided technology for dental crowns. Cerec crowns are popularly known as “one day crowns,” which is the unique proposition of this technology. People who wish to minimize their hours and visits to the dentist’s office may like to opt for Cerec crowns. A greater advantage of Cerec crowns is their high precision and accuracy. Fabrication of a Cerec crown is done with the help of computer-aided design technology. This eliminates any room for approximations and errors, and a perfectly sized crown can be created for each patient. The computer system is available at the dentist’s office. The dentist scans the image of the tooth structure where the crown needs to be placed. That image contains accurate data about the dimensions of the existing tooth structure. The image and data is then fed into the computer, and the specialized Cerec software uses it to create the image of a crown that would ideally fit over the tooth structure to create a perfectly sized and perfectly shaped tooth. The fabrication of the Cerec crown is done thereafter from a single block of porcelain. A milling machine produces a perfect crown for the patient’s needs. The dentist then places that crown and cements it into place firmly. So the patient walks away with a permanent crown created and fitted in a single sitting.
