What is CEREC?

CEREC, also known as Chairside Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, can provide you with a scanned image of a tooth along with any number of porcelain restorations, all made in minutes. CEREC is designed to replace the bad part of a tooth. For this purpose, it first takes a scanned image of what remains of the tooth, and with the help of modern technology, the dentist fabricates and creates a replacement part for the tooth. This eliminates the need of temporary restorations. You can leave your dentist’s office with your permanent porcelain restorations cemented in that very day.

Today, almost every one of us has at least one filling made of metal or some other type of material that doesn't match the color of the rest of the teeth. With CEREC, you get the option of having your next dental restoration permanently completed in just one visit to the dentist’s office!

A CEREC crown is entirely made of porcelain. These have no metal in them and therefore are reasonably esthetic. CEREC material and technology can also be used for dental fillings. In fact, they are more durable than white composite fillings. Although the initial investment in CEREC technology is quite high, it saves money and time in the long term. This is because there is no extra laboratory fee for the dentist and only one appointment is required.

The dentist usually prepares the tooth to be restored either as a crown, inlay, onlay, or veneer. The tooth is then covered with white powder, imaged by 3D and uploaded to the CEREC computer. The CEREC software designs a restoration of the damaged and/or decayed tooth to its original form. Furthermore, with CEREC you can add special characterization, custom staining and glazing.

CEREC is popular among those who don’t want to make two or more visits to the dentist, including another two weeks for their new restoration. With this technology, dentists are able to eliminate that problem in a single session, usually lasting only one to two hours.
